EMITest Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1.       Q: How does the program determine the frequency ranges to be swept?  How can I control these settings?

A: This calculation is based on the total frequency range of the sweep, the resolution bandwidth and the number of display points on your analyzer.  EMITest will automatically calculate the minimum number of sweep ranges so that your analyzer does not loose any information in the data transfer.  Using a low the resolution bandwidth will result in a larger number of sweep ranges.  The number of ranges can be overridden by selecting Set Sweep Ranges then entering the number of ranges desired in the adjacent selection box.  CAUTION: overriding this option will affect the accuracy of the measurements taken.

2.       Q: What is the advanced print format?
A: The Advanced Print Format (APF) is a formatted grid type data sheet with print preview.  It provides a graphical display of the data sheet before printing. To turn APF on go to the Options menu, select the setting tab.  Select Use Advanced Print Format and Select Print Preview on Print.

3.       Q: How do I correct the trace after the sweep has been run?
A: The sweep and the data points can be corrected after the test is complete by going to Spec Setup or Transducer Setup, making the desired change then selecting Recalculate all data and sweep data. Be sure to select the correct test distance that the data was taken at.

4.       Q: What is the difference between Default Lab Address and Lab Address?
A: Each time a new datasheet is created, the default lab address is copied to the lab address.

5.       Q: How many EUT’s can I add to the program?
A: A total of 500 EUT's and/or Support devices can be added to EMITest in one datasheet.

6.       Q: How many EMI Meters can I add to the program?
A: A total of 500 EMI Meters can be added to EMITest in one datasheet.

7.       Q: How do I use the spell check button?
A: Press the spell check button to start the spell checker. If there are no spelling errors, the program will beep to signal that it is finished. If a dialog box pops up, this means that the spell checker did not recognize something in the text. At this point you can ignore the error, have the spell checker change the word, edit the word, or add it to the custom dictionary. A custom dictionary stores the words added to the spell checker.

8.       Q: What are measurement bands?
A: Measurement bands define the frequency range, resolution bandwidth, video bandwidth, and sweep times used when taking automated measurements.  Measurement bands can be modified using the spec limit editor.

9.       Q: If I load up a previous datasheet, does the date and time stay the same?
A: When a previous datasheet is loaded up into EMITest, the program will keep the date and time until a new measurement is taken.

10.     Q: How can I change the available test types, test distance, antenna polarity, or EUT voltage?

A: In EMTest version 4.00, these options can easily be edited by clicking on the "..." button next to the selection box.  Note that the test distance selections must be in meters.

11.     Q: Which Spectrum Analyzers are supported by EMITest?

A: For the latest devices see the Hardware Compatibility List  Additional equipment can easily be added.  Contact support@ckc.com for more information.

12.    Q: What Signal Generators are supported by EMITest, Calibration and Immunity.
A: Version 4.00 automatically includes support for Marconi 2022D, Marconi 2024D, Gigatronics 7200, Fluke 6080A, HP 8656A, HP 8596E RF Out port, and HP E7405 RF Out port.  Any GPIB controllable signal generator can be added through the use of a User Defined Signal Generator.  Contact support@ckc.com for more information.

13.    Q: What is the sweep.log file that is created by EMITest.
A: The sweep.log records the analyzer settings used during the last sweep.  The information in this file can be useful to software support to troubleshoot EMITest problems. This file has no other function.

14.    Q: EMITest doesn't have a feature that I want, how can I get it added to the program?
A: Email your software request to support@ckc.com. All requests are reviewed and prioritized.

15.    Q: What does the purchase of an EMI Test Software Subscription Program do for me?
A: A one year subscription provides for automatic shipment of upgrades, updates, service packs, manual revisions and patches to your application software free of charge.  Also, all training course material will be offered to you with a 10% discount.

16.    Q: Why am I not able to save a data file with the name that I gave it?
A: If you try to save a data file with a slash (/ or \) in the name, the program will not recognize the symbol, and the file will not save.  Dashes and underscores are acceptable, but slashes are not.

17.    Q: What are the Minimum Hardware Requirements for EMITest?
A: Operating system: Windows NT, 2000, XP
      Processor: P3 1GHz
RAM: 256MB RAM (512MB for Military testing)
Disk Space: 25MB of Free hard disk space
