MIL-STD 461E Testing and Compliance

Curriculum

This two-day (two part) workshop will provide a hands-on learning environment to understand the procedures for test planning and testing to MIL-STD 461E/F.  The material will include how the regulations apply to  systems and sub-systems in various stages of certification.   The courses emphasize hands on practical application of MIL-STD 461D/E though extensive integrated laboratory session on a example system.

 

Test Planning Phase

ð     Define pre-testing requirements.
ð     Identify developmental tests for power supplies and case shielding.
ð     Prepare test plans and reports for developmental tests.
ð     Review subcontractor test plans and test reports for developmental tests.
ð     Witness sub-contractor testing.
ð     Prepare detailed EMI test plan / procedure.
ð     Plan and prepare needed items for EMC testing: cables, loads, etc.
ð     Establish failure criteria.
ð     Describe all test modes of operation, test cables, how signals will pass through
         chamber and how EUT will be set-up in chamber.
ð     Establish plan of how to deal with high speed digital and video signals.

Perform Testing Phase ð     Troubleshooting EUT for conducted and radiated emissions          problems. ð     Tracking the test per the test plan. ð     Describe each test method issue to look for in case of failure. ð     How to lower ambient readings. ð     How to determine radiated emissions sources.
ð     How to determine conducted common mode versus differential mode emissions. ð     How to complete a test log. ð     What to include in the set-up and EUT documentation photographs.

Documentation Phase

ð     How to assess test results and make recommendations.

ð     How to prepare report conclusions.

ð     How to organize the final certification test report.

ð     How to document the test and laboratory equipment used.

ð     Graphic requirements for emissions data.
