History
CKC
Laboratories, Inc, was founded by the late
Chris Kendall and his wife MarDell Kendall in 1973. The company was
originally known as CK Consultants, Inc. and operated as an EMC Design
Consultation business. Over the years, the company has expanded from
EMC consulting into EMC testing and certification services. This
expansion has brought growth, success and an international reputation
for technical excellence, innovation and know-how. CKC was one of the
first U.S. firms to assist mainframe computer designers in obtaining VDE
0871 compliance as well as ESD hardening of their products. This
experience helped us to also become an industry leader when FCC
certification became mandatory in 1981. Our leadership meant operating
some of the first West Coast, FCC listed Open Area Test Sites (OATS),
located in Running Springs, CA.
With
few labs capable of providing the required testing, the demand in
Running Springs was tremendous. Once again, Chris and MarDell responded
to their customers’ needs. In 1982, the company headquarters was moved
to Mariposa, CA where a new lab was started; simultaneously, the Running
Springs lab was moved to a larger, multi-site location in Brea, CA.
The decades of the 1980’s and 1990’s brought substantial growth to CK
Consultants, Inc. During that time, the name was changed CKC
Laboratories, Inc. to better reflect testing focus of the business. New
facilities were built in Hollister, CA; Tillamook, OR, Fremont, CA,
Hillsboro, OR and Redmond, WA. CKC’s expansion positioned us very well
for the growth opportunities brought about by mandatory European EMC
requirements in 1996.
The
dawning of a new millennium brought new opportunities for CKC to expand
our capabilities. During the year 2000, when the FCC decided to
privatize most of its certification duties, CKC was appointed as a
Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB), which means we can act on
behalf of the FCC in approving product certifications. CKC was also
designated by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a
Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) for the EMC and R&TTE (Radio and
Telephone Terminal Equipment) directives in the EC. In 2002, Industry
Canada followed the lead of the FCC and also privatized its product
certification duties. CKC was in the first batch of US companies to be
designated as a Conformity Body (CB) for Canadian approvals.

Today
In 2004, an untimely death took CKC’s founder and
President,
Chris Kendall. The memory of what Chris accomplished and what he
stood for continues to be a driving inspiration for the staff and
current leadership of CKC Laboratories. In the spirit of Chris’
life-long aspiration to meet new challenges head-on, CKC began a major
expansion program in 2004. Since that time, we have added a 5 meter
emissions chamber and expanded Military capabilities in our Fremont
facility. We renovated two open area test sites and headquarters
offices in Mariposa, CA. Additionally, we moved our Redmond, WA
facility to a larger facility in Bothell, WA which now includes a 5
meter emissions chamber, upgraded Military chambers and DO-160
multi-stroke, multi-burst lightning testing. Today, CKC is striving to
meet the ever changing EMC compliance needs of industry. To do so, we
are actively continuing growth and growing our capabilities each of the
geographic markets we serve.
